Lazy Habit, keeping habits with no streak to break

Lazy Habit is a habit app for Android, with a small creature you look after. You set down up to six habits for the day, from the easiest to the most ambitious, and you pick according to the energy you have. Each habit completed makes the creature grow, and it never shrinks back: a missed day breaks nothing, there is no score, no streak to keep, no punishment for forgetting. That is the opposite of what most habit apps do, since their mechanics rest on the fear of losing your streak. It works entirely offline: no account, no connection, no data leaving for a server. Published by Lazy Mind, an independent studio. It is paid for, through a yearly subscription: the price and the length of the free trial are on its Play Store listing.

Coming soon on the Play Store.

Who it is for

Lazy Habit is made for people who have already tried five habit apps and uninstalled every one of them the day the streak broke. Streak mechanics work very well for some people and very badly for others: when missing one day cancels weeks, the only way out becomes stopping altogether.

This app is drawn from that experience. Refusing to make you feel guilty is not a selling point added afterwards, it is the reason the app exists.

What it costs

Lazy Habit is paid for, through a yearly, not monthly subscription. The price and the length of the free trial are on its Play Store listing, which is the only place kept up to date. The subscription is handled by Google Play: it renews from one year to the next, it can be cancelled at any time, and the app warns you before it renews so that nobody is charged by surprise.

When the trial ends, the app stops writing but it still reads and exports for life. Your history and your creature stay where they are, whether you subscribe or not. The subscription unlocks writing.

What it knows about you

Nothing. There is no account, no server, no tracker, no ad network. Your habits are stored on the phone and only leave it if you export them yourself. The details are in the privacy policy, which is in French for now.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no streak?

Because the streak is exactly what makes the people this app is for give up. Missing one day must not cancel three weeks.

How many habits can I set?

Six a day. They run from the easiest to the most ambitious, and nothing forces you to aim for the most ambitious on a day when you do not have the energy.

Does the creature die if I do nothing?

No. No punishment for forgetting, not even for it.

Is it the same thing as HabitGotchi?

No. HabitGotchi is the studio's free web app, and a fuller one: garden, workshop, small games, journal. Lazy Habit is a new app, simpler, built for the phone.

Do I have to create an account?

No. There is no account, and there never will be.

Is there an iPhone version?

No, Lazy Habit only exists on Android.

The studio's other apps

Lazy Habit is part of a small suite of apps that share the same way of doing things: one thing done well, no account, no tracking. See also Lazy Sober and Lazy Rhythm, or all the Lazy Mind apps.
